Pembrokeshire has a wide range of wildlife. PLEASE NOTE THAT WILDLIFE MUST NOT BE DISTURBED, DOING SO MAY BE A CRIMINAL OFFENCE. That being said, you will be surprisingly pleased at how tolerant wildlife can be by our presence.
BIRDS: The Pembrokeshire Coast is an internationally important area for sea birds. Each year we have thousands of birds arriving to breed on the sea cliffs. Puffin, Razorbill, Guilliemot, Kittiwake-to name a few cling to impossible ledges to nest and breed. There are many good viewing points and the Pembrokeshire Footsteps team can take you as a part of a walk. Estuarine brine birds are abundant with some very important mudflats and shorelines for feeding. Shellduck, Waders, Egret and Heron are a common site if you know where to go. We can show you where. ( We are currently negotiating the services of a local enthusiast/expert- to guide a series of specific walks=RING US FOR DETAILS.( We have a new rarity in the county-The Dartford Warbler)
FLOWERS: The best time for flowers is May/June. Pembrokeshire is at its best then. Cliff tops are carpeted with Orchids, Squill and Campions. The varieties are almost endless and if flowers are your delight book a cliff walk with us and we will show you the best places to go.
INSECT LIFE: Varied and significant, we have a very rare butterfly breeding well in one remote area of the county and a rare beetle making its home in tideline debris. Dragon Flies and other insects abound. We are able to arrange a special walk for enthusiasts, phone for details.
Others: Dolphins and Porpoise are regularly seen around our coast. The best sightings are from one of the regular boat excursions. We can advise.
SEALS: Several important colonies of the Grey Seal are located in the county. Certain beaches are used in the pupping season. We run a seal spotting safari in late September early October and will take you (on land)to see the seals/pups WITHOUT causing a disturbance to them. Phone/e-mail for details. NB The safari will include a visit to the Seal Rescue Centre in Milford Haven.NB there will be an additional charge for transport.
